Drummer was originally developed for Commodore 64, but it later evolved on to many other platforms like Amstrad CPC, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum and MSX.
Drummer was programmed by Norwegian programmer Erik J. Kristensen and released in 1987 for the Commodore 64.
The software was also used as an example to show how to program a real time synthesiser for the Amiga in The Amiga Guide.
In the early 1990s, a sequel was released for Commodore 64 and a port for Amstrad CPC. A company named Jive Music was hired to create a PC version of the sequel. A more advanced version was made for Windows 3.1, as well as a Linux version.
In 1992, a version named “Drummer 2” was released for the Atari ST.
In 1995, a version named “Drummer Pro” was released for Windows 3.11 and DOS.
In 1999, a version called Drummer X was released for Windows 98 and Windows NT.
In 2009, Jive Music released a Windows 98 version called Drummer 2000.
The successor to Drummer Pro was named Drum Machine.
Drummer is available to download for Windows computers through Jive Music.
Drummer became the most successful drum software in the market, and it is used by musicians all around the world.
